Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti (Arabic: صدام حسين عبد المجيد التكريتي Aabdu-Saddām Husayn al-majīd al-Tikriti, born in Al-Awja, Iraq, 28 April 1937 - died in Kadhimiya, Iraq, December 30, 2006 at the age of 69 years) is the President of Iraq in the period from July 16, 1979 to 9 April 2003, when it was caught by the current coalition forces invaded Iraq in 2003. As the Iraqi leader and chairman of the Ba'ath Party, he adopted a policy of secular pan-Arabism, economic modernization , and Arab socialism.In Arabic, the name Saddam means stubborn or challenging him (in Iraq this name is also used as a term for the bumper cars). Name Hussein (also spelled Husayn and Hussain) was the maiden name of his father, Abd al-Majid was his grandfather's name, and at-Tikriti means she was born and raised in (or near) Tikrit. He used to be called Saddam Hussein, or Saddam only for short.
He was born on April 28, 1937. Saddam was a dictator of Iraq from July 16, 1979 to 9 April 2003. His term ends after Iraq was attacked by a coalition led by the United States in 2003. As a key member of the Iraqi Ba'ath Party, which advocated Pan -Arabisme secular, economic modernization, and Arab socialism, Saddam played a crucial pernaan in a coup in 1968 that made the long-ruling party in the country.
As vice president under his cousin, Gen. Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr weak, Saddam full control of the conflict between the government and the armed forces to create security forces that oppress and confirmed the authority of the government apparatus.
As president, Saddam created the authoritarian government and maintained power through the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) and the Gulf War (1991). Both the war was a sharp drop in living standards and human rights. Saddam suppress movements which it deems threatening, especially an emerging movement of ethnic groups or religious fight for independence or self-government. While he is regarded as a popular hero among many Arabs for daring to challenge Israel and the United States, some people in the international community continued to see Saddam with suspicion, especially after the 1991 Gulf War.
Saddam was ousted in the 2003 invasion of Iraq led by the United States, and was captured by US forces on December 13, 2003. On 5 November 2006 Chief Judge Rauf Rasheed Abdel Rahman sentenced him to death by hanging him for crimes against humanity.
On December 26, 2006, the Supreme Court declared Iraq to immediately carry out the sentence that has been imposed. On December 30, 2006, Saddam was executed. Two weeks later, on January 15, 2007 morning, two aides namely the Iraqi Revolutionary Council Chairman Awad Ahmed al-Bandar and intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikrit is serving a suspension. In fact, that is the half-brother Barzan Saddam and plump head apart from the body while undergoing the execution.
